empty space

empty space is a 17th Century barn in the Peak District village of Holme. True to it's materials, this beautifully simple space is a celebration of stone, wood and the creativity of our friends.

In 2013 we made the decision to renovate the barn and start to use it as a workshop, gallery and creative space. We started in February and finished by our deadline in July ready for the Holmfirth Art week. During this time we relaid the stone flag floor, rebuilt an internal dry stone wall (thanks to Steven at Fenchurch Stoneworks), we replaced all the windows and doors - including the 10 foot by 7 foot sliding door - the roof was insulated, two new mezzanine floors were built as well as two new staircases. It was an intense period of work and the finished space has now evolved to include a full pottery studio, a complete carpentry workshop and a huge log burning stove. We have started commissioning furniture to complement this space and our aim is to make it available to other groups and individuals looking for an empty space to fill with new ideas.

We are always open to proposals from other artists and groups who have an idea for using the space - please get in touch.
